We Are Animals at a Glance
A Bit of Background
We are a non-profit society at the University of Cape Town connecting students with animal welfare and nature conservation organisations in the Western Cape. We strive to connect students and build productive relationships to make a positive impact with all of our pursuits.
What We Do
Meaningful Work. Unforgettable Experiences.
We are achieving more with our initiatives than ever before. We work on many exciting projects to help improve the lives of the animal community, and are very proud of the progress we continue to make. Learn more about what we do, who we help, and how we work every day to promote positive change.
Volunteering
One Step at a Time
At We Are Animals, we are dedicated to stepping up our efforts by sending students to volunteer at animal shelters every weekend. Seeing how many animals are without a home is definitely not easy, but through cooperation, community empowerment, and a little compassion we believe we can facilitate progress in this area. We are always striving to make a difference, and invite you to learn more and lend your support.
Fundraising
Every Bit Counts
We believe that, even on a student budget, successful fundraising is possible. With access to the right resources, people can become empowered by their own abilities and gain the confidence to fulfill their potential. Learn more about our work by getting in touch with our team today.
Spreading Awareness
Empowering The Community
With our organization’s mission always in mind, we strive to find new strategies for enlightening our community. Through our volunteering and fundraising we bring to light initiatives in need.  Contact us to learn more about our commitment to this cause.

Our Story
Turning Interest Into Action
We are an animal welfare society open to students and staff at the University of Cape Town. Our aim is to connect our members to organisations that need our help in the form of volunteering, fundraising and spreading awareness.

We Are Animals was founded in 2014. Initially, the executive committee was lead by Co-chairs (chair of animal welfare and chair of nature conservation). Our main affiliates of 2014 were the Cape of Good Hope SPCA and Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds (SANCCOB). In 2015 we continued to support these two organisations and also became affiliated with DARG (Domestic Animal Rescue Group), LEAPS (Lamberts and Elands Animal Protection Services), and Dogs Deserve Better Rehabilitation Centre.
The Executive Committee now consists of a Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, Treasurer, Secretary, Head of Fundraising, Head of Volunteering, Social Media and Marketing Manager, and Head of Nature Conservation.

To our members, we provide the following opportunities:
A commitment of any amount of time to the organisation/s we are affiliated with, transport will always be provided by us
A donation to any of the organisation/s we are affiliated with or are fundraising for.
Representing We Are Animals and an affiliate organisation as an athlete (for example: participating in the Two Oceans as part of the SPCA's team)
Attending fundraising events and initiatives, such as our termly bake sales
Interacting with us on our social media pages (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram)
Getting involved further by joining any of our sub-committees (volunteering, fundraising, and nature conservation)..
